The brief was simple: They needed a 13.6m X 8m structure completely rebranded with their new Tyco livery and they wanted it up and in place for the NW 200 which was in eight working days!
As we manufacture everything in house we were able to agree to the tight delivery schedule and set to work… Our first challenge was to get approval for the proposed layout of the structures graphics. We find that trying to please so many sponsors in what is essentially an exposure driven sport proves to be difficult and time consuming. While we are primarily awning manufacturers we have a complete design and branding capability that allows the customer to see the finished product in 3D before a screw is turned. An agreement was reached within 24 hours and the necessary sheets were sent to digital print.
The next stage involved the actual fabrication and construction of the awning.
As the truck was being used for the third round of the British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park we wouldn't be able to see it until it was due to head off to the NW200, so it was necessary to make an on-site visit to the TAS headquarters to carry out a survey and iron out any small teething problems or issues. It was also important to make sure that the practical aspects of fitting a structure to the side of a truck were taken into account. It is not just a matter of attaching brackets to the sides; we always ensure that we don't hit water or power lines and are constantly aware of the need to ensure that the customer's vehicle is not damaged in anyway.
The customer had hinted that they would like the access point to be a little more secure so we suggested that they insert a marquee style glazed aluminium door panel to provide a specific access area that can be securely locked when they left the circuit. This can be constructed and broken down in minutes to allow for easy storage and is available in numerous specifications. We tend to keep a full range in stock as different customers have different requirements.
Once the practalities had been agreed and final measurements taken, it was back to our purpose built facility to commence work.
The truck returned from England on the Thursday which enabled us to fit the necessary tracking that had been repainted to tie in with the existing truck livery, and the Tyco team showed up on the Friday morning to get a demonstration of the awning being constructed and dismantled to ensure they were familiar with the various aspects of the structure. The entire awning was then packed away and the guys were able to build it the following day in the paddock area trouble free and in the minimum time scale.
"Many thanks to the team at Terapin. As a successful race team we know the pressures of having to produce results in a high pressure environment within tight schedules. The management team were professional, courteous and more importantly nothing was a problem; they were able to facilitate every requirement we had." Phillip Neal Tyco Suzuki British Superbike Manager
